Armed assailants suspected to be Ambazonia separatist fighters this Tuesday, February 4, shot dead a bulldozer operator who was working at the site of a collapsed bridge at Small Mankon, Bamenda.
The deceased was reportedly working on La Chance bridge that collapsed in July last year.
The bridge links a popular spot called Rendez-vous to the City Chemist roundabout in Bamenda.
Sources say armed fighters stormed the area and opened fire on the bulldozer operator, killing him on the spot.
It is uncertain if his killing relates to the rehabilitation of the bridge.
At the time of this report, unconfirmed sources said security forces killed some armed men at Council Junction in Mankon suspected to have committed the act.
The killing of the bulldozer operator prompted a military raid in the area and reports say they molested several residents of the area for hiding separatists.
Meanwhile, residents also reported gunshots around the Bamenda Regional Hospital, a key health facility in the North West Region.
The city of Bamenda has witnessed recurrent gunshots and random killings for eight years now since the Anglophone Crisis started in the English-speaking Regions of Cameroon.
Armed men fighting for separation as well as military officers have repeatedly targeted civilians during the crisis.
