Burkina Faso President Traoré Calls for Unity Among Footballers

Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, encouraged footballers to put aside any divisions in order to contribute to the nation’s development. Speaking after a tightly contested gala match between the Faso presidency team and a selection of professional players, Traoré highlighted the significance of unity and teamwork among the players.

“I always find it fascinating to consider the analogy of the mouth, with its teeth and tongue,” President Traoré remarked. “While eating, it’s possible to accidentally bite your tongue, but it’s unlikely that you’ll actually remove it from your mouth.” (…) It’s inevitable that we’ll encounter challenges if we want to be together. This is the essence of life. We all strive to go the extra mile for the sake of our country.

The President’s remarks, released by his communication service on Sunday, were given on June 29, 2024, following the exciting match in which the presidency team emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over the professional players. The head of state demonstrated his skill on the pitch by scoring twice, while Oussoufo Eugène Yigo added the third goal. Prejuce Nacoulma was the standout for the professionals, showcasing his skills by scoring both of their goals.

The President emphasised the importance of football in bringing people together and urged players to prioritise the development of young talents and the promotion of innovative initiatives. “The president of Faso extended an invitation to the footballers, emphasising the importance of diversity, unity, cohesion, and solidarity. He also encouraged them to initiate innovative projects that will support the development of real schools, nurturing young talents within the framework of the uprising,” stated the communication service.

Emphasising the importance of nurturing the younger generation, President Traoré urged experienced players in Burkina Faso to take the lead in developing football. “Playing has the power to foster unity and togetherness in every corner of the country.” I must say, I am quite impressed with your accomplishments. Explore every corner, seek out the source, and then plant the seeds. “We will go with you,” he firmly stated.

The players’ expressions of gratitude and support were clearly apparent. Footballers Charles Kaboré and Moumouni Dagano expressed their gratitude to the Head of State for his dedication to football and sports. The initiative was highly praised as it provided them with a unique opportunity to establish a close connection with President Traoré, a prominent advocate of the Stallions.

The match, characterised by a lively atmosphere and intense competition, also brought to mind the president’s previous message from their encounter in 2023, when the presidency team emerged victorious with a score of 3-1. The event represented something greater than a mere game; it served as a rallying cry for solidarity and the relentless pursuit of greatness, both within and beyond the confines of the pitch.
