Cameroonian opposition leader, Cabral Libii is currently ‘under the axe’ after an altercation with fellow activist, Barrister Alice Nkom.

The renowned activist and lawyer had repremanded the politician, stating that he was losing his credibility when he hit back, drawing criticisms from many.

“I am afraid because I like Cabral very much but he is naive because if he were not, he would not have run for the [municipal and legislative] elections …,” Barrister Alice Nkom had said.

Replying to what he felt was an attack on his person, Cabral Libii took to twitter, suggesting the barrister’s views were a function of her age.

“Born in 1945, she is 4 years older than my father… Barrister Alice Nkom had made such good political use without a home. In the [ruling] CPDM … That she thinks her word is gospel. I respect her but senescence is not always lucid,” he is quoted as saying.

Following the declaration, many have not had it light with the politician. Among them is veteran editorialist, Henriette Ekwe who said “Cabral Libii is not normal…”.

“Do we treat a mother who fights for the freedom of Cameroonians as a senile, an old woman?” She questioned.

Mamadou Mota, Vice President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM party too did not take the remarks lightly.

“When I see the day, Mum (Alice Nkom) climbed 4 floors to receive me, hug me and talk to me. I saw pages of books open and close one after the other. I noticed nothing inconsistent, scattered or empty,” he said, adding that Cabral’s brain must have been “diluted” by his salary rise from 235,000 FCFA to 800,000 FCFA after becoming MP for Eseka.

Dr Fridolin Nke was another personality to cut the politician’s coat to size. To her, Cabral’s response to the ace rights defender “unveiled his immaturity and ignorance … Of the rules of debate …”.

“Mum for some, darling for me, Barrister Alice Nkom, I do not find an extraordinary word to qualify this magisterium…,” said Dr Fridolin Nke who too is a Philosopher, university lecturer and researcher.

Barrister Alice Nkom too broke the silence, sending another response to the 2018 Presidential candidate.

Barrister Alice Nkom reminded the politician she had never been a member of the ruling party as he claimed.

Cabral Libii, it should be recalled, has often come under public scrutiny for his choices, with some often accusing him of being too lenient and verse with government politicians and elites.

Others have also criticized him often, with some accusing him of caring more about himself and his political ambitions rather than the good of his people.
