The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has extended its condolences and expressed deep sadness following the death of former Cameroonian international Landry Nguemo.

Nguemo, 38, passed away tragically in a car accident on Thursday, June 27th, 2024. The news sent shockwaves through the African football community, with tributes pouring in from across the continent.

“The CAF is saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Cameroonian International, Landry Nguemo,” the football governing body said in a statement.

Nguemo, a versatile midfielder, enjoyed a decorated career that saw him represent clubs like Celtic FC in Scotland and Girondins de Bordeaux in France. He was also a mainstay for the Indomitable Lions, Cameroon’s national team, making 42 appearances and scoring three goals between 2006 and 2014.

CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, extended his heartfelt condolences. “The CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe conveys heartfelt condolences to the family of Landry Nguemo, Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), as well as the entire Cameroon Football Family,” the statement added.

Nguemo’s untimely passing leaves a void in African football. He will be remembered for his dedication to the sport and his contributions to both club and country.

A day after his passing, former teammate Patrick Mboma wrote a message to Landry Nguemo: “I didn’t have time to tell you, but I was just thinking of you today, Landry. I miss you so much already, little brother.”

This is the sentiment shared by the entire Cameroon football family as they continue to mourn the departed Lion.
