Ahmad Ahmad, the democratically elected president of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, is to arrive in Cameroon ahead of matches for the semi-finals and final of the African Nations Championship, CHAN, which ends on February 7, 2021.

In a video conference Sunday, January 31st, 2021, the Confederation of African Football recognized and officially accepted the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports CAS of Friday, January 29th reinstating Ahmad Ahmad as president of CAF thereby suspending a sanction of FIFA.

Going by a final release at the end of the video conference signed by Alexandre Siewe, CAF director of communication, Ahmad saluted the organization of the African Nations Championship in Cameroon under the leadership of Constant Omari, interim CAF president.

To Ahmad Ahmad, ” I want to thank Constant Omari for assuring CAF presidency in the past weeks. He has brilliantly assured the organization of CHAN in Cameroon. I will continue from there till the end of the championship. I will continue to make sure that football on the continent continues to triumph.”

It remains unclear if Ahmad’s candidature to the post of president of CAF will still be accepted after the deadline expired when he was suspended. Elections at the helm of CAF will take place on March 12, 2021.

Ahmad was elected president of CAF on the 17th of March 2017.
