CAMASEJ Douala: Maureen Ndih embraces open door policy

The Douala Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ D) has often been described by as a vibrant yet isolated chapter from the national association.

Among other instances, CAMASEJ Douala was not represented at a national executive meeting held in Limbe, South West region on May 1, 2021 to “rethink” the future of the association.

After an overwhelming victory in a chapter election Sunday, May 16, 2021, Maureen Ndih, the new president of CAMASEJ Douala is optimistic to collaborate in the interest of English-speaking Journalists in Cameroon.

“… I am ready to work with everybody for the growth of CAMASEJ. Leadership is all about having an open and optimistic mindset. We are a flexible team,”Maureen Ndih told Mimi Mefo Info Wednesday, May 19.

For an effective functioning of the association, Maureen holds that “The national bureau has its specific role. They know the role they have to play in relation to the chapters. Our doors are open”.

Days after an election that ushered Maureen Ndih and her team to office, the new executive is leaving no stone unturned to continue the good works of the outgoing executive.

Her enthusiasm to learn more in the field of journalism and media can be misinterpreted as though she is a beginner in the noble profession of journalism. No! Maureen Ndih has been practicing journalism for close to two decades.

Shortly after graduating with a bachelor degree from the prestigious department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Buea, the then little Maureen Ndih was recruited at the English News service of Cauris FM, one of the first private radio station in Cameroon’s economic capital Douala.

Maureen’s captivating voice in news reports and presentations on the airwaves of Cauris FM and the ever burning zeal to learn more took Maureen to Equinoxe television and radio. In a purely private audio visual Media organ, the native of Sang Mbemie village in Momobdivision in the North West region of Cameroon printed her professional mark within five years she served there.

Today, the journalist, keen in reporting and advocating for the rights of women is one of the “can’t do without” journalists at the English News service at Canal 2 international television’s Central newsroom in Douala.

As a TV host, her program called “Turn Up” formerly broadcast on defunct Canal 2 English is now aired on Canal 2 international TV.

Besides excelling in audiovisual media landscape in Cameroon marking her name as a media personality in Cameroon, Maureen Ndih equally communicates for an international nongovernmental organization called “Perfect Fit International”.

It is with this wealth of experience that Maureen Ndih is placing at the service of journalists and media workers in Cameroon across the board.

At the level of the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, she served as Vice president of the Douala Chapter for eight years. Her commitment and determination to see things work right for Cameroonian journalists won the hearts of her colleagues voting her to lead CAMASEJ Douala in the next four years.

The “Maureen Administration” as it’s popular called in Douala is committed in letting members of the association uphold professional practice while focusing on their Health.

“My team is working hard for health insurance for members. In good health and good pay package they can work well as journalists, ” Maureen stated.

The mother of three daughters holds firmly that professional capacity building of members of her chapter will be her watch word.

Maureen Ndih is to blend her good knowledge of CAMASEJ with experience she has gained while serving as Vice president of the Cameroon Trade Union of Journalists -SNJC Douala to raise the bar in the treatment of English-Speaking Journalists in Douala.
