Cameroon: A Military Helicopter Crash: One Soldier Dead, Three Divisional Officers Wounded

“The brigade commander of Nkor, Bui Division in the North West Region of Cameroon has been confirmed dead. The Divisional Officers of Oku and Misaje Subdivisions and four other administrative officers have been evacuated to hospitals in Bamenda following severe injured incurred in the crash,” a source on the bases on anonymity has told Mimi Mefo Info .

The military helicopter left Bamenda headquaters of the North West Region of Cameroon en route to Oku in Bui Division still in the North West.
First it landed at Tobin and took off for Oku village at 11:00 am Monday May 13th 2019.
In a forest around Elak Oku, the military helicopter came down abruptly causing the death of an occupant with five others wounded.
Cameroon ministry of defense has not issued any official statement following the incident.

Why a Military helicopter Patrol?

Several reasons have been advanced to justify why the military helicopter was flying in the area.
To a traditional ruler in the locality, the helicopter has been assigned from Bamenda to transport local traditional, administrative and religious dignitaries from Bui Division who participated in peace talks with the Prime Minister Chief Dr Dion Ngute Joseph at the weekend in Bamenda.
The decision to ‘air lift’ participants of the peace talks follows threats from Anglophone militiamen called the ambazonia fighters of attacking those who defy their orders to attend the meeting in Bamenda.
Another source has stated that military patrol both on air and on land has been the order of the day since the violent phase of the crisis. Therefore the military helicopter was mainly on a routine patrol mission.
