Cameroon has adopted the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) system to curb passport fraud.

This technology will enable the country authenticate foreign passports, bolstering its national security by combating identity fraud.

The PKD system provides access to the public keys of passport-issuing countries.

This allows Cameroonian authorities to authenticate passports presented at its borders, ensuring that they are genuine.

By authenticating electronic passports, the PKD system is a powerful tool against counterfeit documents and unauthorized access.

According to Cornelis De Jonge, President of the ICAO PKD Commission, and Paule Avomo Assoumou, Director General of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, this measure will significantly improve border control efficiency.

The adoption of the PKD system seeks to enhance Security by validating the authenticity of passports; this will enable Cameroon to reduce the risk of identity fraud, protecting both citizens and international travellers.

It also helps to improve Border Control, with the PKD system streamlining the passport verification process, facilitating legitimate travel and improving border efficiency and global cooperation.

This initiative underscores Cameroon’s commitment to international security standards, fostering collaboration with other nations to maintain consistent global security protocols.

Cameroon’s adoption of the PKD system highlights its dedication to strengthening national security and enhancing international cooperation.

As global travel increases, such measures are essential in ensuring safe and secure borders, ultimately benefiting citizens and visitors alike.
