Several civilians are feared dead and many houses were reduced to ashes in Vekovi, Bui Division, Northwest region of Cameroon when soldiers carried out indiscriminate attacks on the community.

The attacks were carried out Saturday night when people were fast asleep.

“Many of those who fled have not been found. The fear is that they are dead given that we have already discovered corpses. Some villagers were also taken away after their houses were looted and set ablaze,” a source told MIMI.

Sunday morning, smoke could be seen coming from the burnt buildings that were burnt down by the soldiers.

The Northwest administration led by governor Adolph Lele Lafrique has continually come under fire from the population who say they have always turned a blind eye to their suffering, especially when perpetrated by soldiers.

Given the remote nature of many red zones in the crisis in the two restive Anglophone regions, atrocities committed by all sides in the war ravaging lives always go unreported or are underreported thereby giving the belligerents the latitude to do more.
