Cameroon: Bandits storm school, rob students in broad daylight

In Nkamalikum, a locality in Kumba, South West Region of Cameroon, a group of armed bandits brazenly invaded a school, robbing students of their possessions in broad daylight.

This unprecedented attack unfolded on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Global Bilingual Comprehensive College, known as GLOBICCOL Kumba, situated in Kumba 1 subdivision.

Reports indicate that approximately eight armed individuals forcefully entered a classroom during a catch-up session and proceeded to rob students of their valuables, including phones and money.

Disturbingly, during the course of the robbery, the bandits subjected a significant number of students to violence, resulting in the admission of one student from the targeted educational institution.

According to the Sun Newspaper’s Monday edition, observant neighbourhood groups managed to capture two of the eight attackers. “Two of the armed robbers have been captured by a joint effort involving Bonakama, Krama, and Meboka vigilante groups,” The Sun reported.

It is not clear whether this incident is connected to the Anglophone Crisis, which has escalated the level of insecurity in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions.

According to the media outlet, the detained suspects have been handed over to the local law enforcement in Kumba, and an ongoing investigation is currently underway.
