Cameroon: Christmas joy turns to sorrow as landslide kills two children in Douala

Two children aged three are reported to have died in a landslide in “Japoma Cocotiers” a neighborhood in Douala III, Littoral Region of Cameroon.

The two children from two different families were said to be playing on Christmas day, December 25, 2022, when they were suddenly engulfed by the ground.

“The rockslide occurred when the children were playing. Witnesses who were present at the scene immediately alerted their parents,” reveals ActuCameroun.

The two children were later on extracted from the rubble, lifeless.

Informed, the Senior Divisional Officer for Wouri, Benjamin Mboutou visited the scene the next day to inquire about the situation.

“He called on the authorities of the Douala III municipality to identify the houses built in this risk zone while planning their demolition in the coming days,” ActuCameroun added.

The families of the two children have been left inconsolable following the tragic incident.
