Cameroon military training centre reports shortage of instructors and space

A Cameroonian military training centre with 941 trainees has reported a shortage of permanent, qualified instructors, limited training space and inadequate infrastructure.

Authorities at the Centre for the Training of Military Specialists (CISA) raised the concerns during an inspection by Brigadier General Nka Valère on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

Nka, commander of Cameroon’s Joint Military Training Centres and Schools, called for improvements to specialist training after hearing the institution’s concerns.

CISA trains personnel in 17 specialist fields. Women make up 20 per cent of its trainees.

School authorities also questioned the balance between general education and technical instruction. They expressed concern that subjects such as mathematics, history and languages could reduce the time available for specialist training.

CISA asked to propose qualified instructors

In response to the staffing shortage, Nka instructed the centre to submit the credentials of potential instructors from the Ministry of Defence and external institutions for review. Additional experts could be considered where needed.

He said the concerns about infrastructure, space and staffing would be forwarded to the military hierarchy for consideration of possible long-term solutions.

The inspection followed Nka’s appointment to lead the joint military training centres and schools by presidential decree in August 2026.
