Cameroon customs seize 670 Ambazonia T-shirts at Ekok

Cameroonian customs officers have seized 670 T-shirts bearing Ambazonia symbols at Ekok, on the Cameroon–Nigeria border, according to the customs administration.

Officers of the Ekok Commercial Customs Brigade also found 32 pieces of printed fabric and five separatist flags during the vehicle inspection on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

In a statement published on 30 September, customs authorities said the consignment was being transported clandestinely along the Nigeria–Cameroon corridor. They described the items as propaganda materials linked to separatist groups operating in Cameroon’s North-West and South-West regions.

Administrative and judicial investigations have been opened to trace the origin of the goods and identify those involved in transporting them, the statement said.

Investigations follow border seizure

The Ekok corridor is a major commercial route between Cameroon and Nigeria. It remains under heightened security surveillance amid the armed conflict in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions.

Customs authorities presented the seizure as part of their efforts to intercept materials they consider a security risk. The administration said its work increasingly involves cooperation with other defence and security agencies alongside its traditional role in collecting revenue and regulating trade.

Previous customs seizures in the South-West

Customs units in the South-West have previously reported intercepting military equipment, ammunition, suspected components for improvised explosive devices and controlled chemicals.

In a separate operation during the night of 23–24 September 2026, officers from the Limbé Mobile Customs Brigade seized 300,000 Tramadol tablets at the Mudeka checkpoint.

According to customs authorities, the tablets were concealed among bundles of plastic slippers in the luggage compartments of a bus travelling from Nigeria to Douala.
