Cameroon City Mayors election is fake decentralization -Jacques Maboula, Former Mayor

There is doubt if 14 city mayors elected to head city councils in Cameroon will work for the interest of the local population who elected them through indirect election or will they work to satisfy the central committee of the Cameroon People`s Democratic Movement Party.

According to Jacques Maboula, former mayor of Yabasi Council in the Littoral region, City Mayors will definitely take instructions on how to handle the cities from the central committee of the CPDM party.

The leader of the Republican Alliance political party speaking on Equinoxe television Wednesday, March 4th says “the fact that CPDM party hierarchy imposed all the 14 government delegates means the choices of the local population have not been taken into consideration “. To him, an independent city mayor worth the name should be able to conceive and implement projects that will develop the city.

The former militant of the CPDM party says the political party headed by President Paul Biya is not a democratic party but a gathering where some few individuals make decisions to secure their positions and wealth.

On the issue of war in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon, the former local administrator says secession can never be a reality in Cameroon. He calls on secessionists to reconsider their extreme position and come back to reason. While accepting that they are burning issues that need to be addressed in Cameroon, he stresses that no country will encourage secession in Cameroon.
