Cameroon: Black Monday As Nine-Year-Old Dies After Consuming Cassava

It has been a sad school resumption day for a family in Cameroon’s West Region.

A child, aged 9, died after consuming cassava.

Kuere Allan is the name of the victim. He and his family lived in Mbouda, Bamboutos Division, one of the biggest towns in the West Region.

Local media reported on September 4, 2023, that the 9-year-old reportedly died after consuming Cassava tubers.

Four of his siblings, who also ate the same meal, are in the hospital receiving treatment, MMI has learned. While it remains unclear what happened, locals are suspecting that the kids must have been poisoned.

Today’s incident is one in a series.
