Cameroon Education Foundation donates Books to Bamenda Central Prison

The Bamenda Central Prison Thursday August 19, 2021 received a consignment of books from the Cameroon Education Foundation.

Speaking during the book donation exercise, the Superintendent of the Bamenda Central prison, Asaahngu Henry said inmates should be able to return home with a rejuvenated mindset after serving their prison terms.

The books, the prison authorities say are not just to increase the reading culture of the inmates but equally to transform their minds after they leave the prison cells to stay in the society.

The humanitarian gesture that came from the Cameroon Education Foundation was timely as the prison continue to witness a staggering population.

With the population in the prison, they could only boast of 450 books in their library.

“The books we had could not matchup with the prison population we have today. These books will go a long way to boost our library and also encourage others to start reading,” the prison Superintendent said.

The gesture is expected to add value to the lives of inmates in the Bamenda Central Prison as declared by the director of the Juvenile Reformatory School.

The Juvenile Reformatory School is an educative unit of the Bamenda Central Prison founded in 1983.

Inmates say, the donation of the books will advance their education and knowledge although they have been locked up.
