Five people are reported to have died after a vehicle transporting illicit fuel vendors caught fire on the Garoua-Maroua road on Tuesday.
The tragic incident occurred about 2am on Tuesday, May 9, at Nkong-Nkong village.
Reports say smoke from the burning vehicle attracted villagers who rushed to the scene.
But it was too late to save the five passengers who had been trapped in the Toyota Hiace vehicle when it caught fire.
“The owner of the vehicle succeed to move out of the vehicle before it got completely engulfed by the violent flames,” said a source.
The vehicle owner, who doubled as the driver, further told our source that he was accompanied by five people who, unfortunately, did not survive.
He blamed the fire on a mechanical fault that made the vehicle lose control before going up in flames.
