Nurses all over the world are being celebrated today for their selflessness and sacrifices for humanity.
This year’s edition comes at a time when health workers in Cameroon are being criticised and some even brutalised for their handling of COVID-19 patients.
Some say despite giving in their best, they still go unappreciated not only by patients’ families but even by the state.
Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie has today brought words of comfort to health workers all over the national territory.
The Minister who has been at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic today took to twitter to share a kind thought for them.
“On this World Nursing Day, congratulations to the men and women who are mobilized every day and even more during this Covid-19 period to save lives” he said.
The government official also said government “will continue to do what is possible to improve working conditions in our hospitals.”
Due to its fragile health system, many still express fears that a more intense outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic will leave the country in chaos, as the already drained medical staff will not be able to cope.
Due to their efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and the risks they take, many say the best government can do is to increase their pay packages as well as make sure they are able to live comfortable lives after leaving active service.
