A list of 452 names of persons to be evicted from government low-cost houses in Cameroon has been made public.
According to the country’s housing minister, Celestine Ketcha Courtes the decision comes following the failure of these occupants to renew their housing contracts signed with the state.
Many of these tenants, she explains, have for a long time now not been respecting the terms of their agreement with the government housing estate, La Societe Immobilier de Cameroun, SIC.
Going by the figure presented by the SIC Director-General, Ahmadou Sardouna, the corporation now has a deficit, making operation an uphill task.
Going by the minister’s order, the tenants concerned have been given a month to regularise their situations after paying their debts or evacuate the structures for good.
