The President of The Confederation Of African Football (CAF), has rated Cameroon’s readiness to welcome her fellow African nations in its territory, come January 2022, for the 33rd edition of the AFCON.
Speaking during the CAF Extraordinary Session in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Patrice Motsepe said, “ there will always be challenges, there will always be areas we can improve on, areas we can do better. I think we (referring to Cameroon) are 95% ready, ” he started.
According to the Business Tycoon, he saw great commitment among Cameroonians during some of his visits to the 2022 AFCON host nation.
While expressing confidence in a wonderful and successful AFCON to be hosted by Cameroon, The South African noted “We want to show Africa, The World, the patience and hospitality of the Cameroonian people”.
MMI recalls that Cameroon won the rights to host the 32nd edition of AFCON in 2019, but was moved to a North African nation, and CAF headquarters, Egypt, due to the growing tensions brought about by the Anglophone secessionist crisis and Cameroon’s unpreparedness.
With Cameroon gaining another opportunity to house other African countries for the second time, she has come under challenges of providing necessary infrastructures, even to the level of CAF’s recent threats of moving the opening match from the Olembe sports arena after November 30.
