Cameroon is prepared to face a potential coronavirus outbreak – US embassy

Nigeria has become the first country in sub Saharan Africa to confirm a case of the much dreaded corona virus.

In the light of the recent happening, questions are once more being raised on how prepared Cameroon is to tackle the deadly virus in case of any eventuality.

Moments ago, the US embassy in Yaounde noted that “thanks to cooperation with the United States, Cameroon is prepared to face a potential coronavirus outbreak.”

In a February 27 press briefing “U.S. health experts explained how the U.S. government has assisted Cameroon in developing screening strategies at ports of entry, preparing laboratories and quarantine centers, supplying test kits, and training rapid response teams in all 10 regions who can respond to any kind of disease outbreak” the embassy wrote.

” U.S. health assistance also assists Cameroon in fighting a host of other diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis” it added.

According to an interactive map by the John Hopkins University, Cameroon is one of many nations moderately prepared to tackle the virus in case it strikes.

Despite the measures put in place, many say the non closure of Cameroon’s borders to persons coming in from areas infected by the virus, could increase the risk of Cameroonians getting infected.

Since its outbreak, the Coronavirus has killed more than 2,800 people and infected more than 83,000 worldwide.
