Cameroon Lawyers drag Justice Minister to court for failing to launch Bar exams

The Minister of Justice, Keeper of the seals, Laurent Esso has been dragged to court.

The Justice boss was has been dragged to court by a group of Cameroonians Lawyers.

He is being accused of not organising the BAR entrance exams.

According to the lawyers, the Minister of Justice is going against the law and has to be taken to court.

They are bent on forcing the Minister of Justice to respect the law by organizing the said exam.

Barrister Richard Tamfu, one of the main brains behind the move revealed that Laurent Esso has been violating the law for over eight years.

“Per the decree organizing entrance examinations of pupil advocate, he is supposed to take necessary measures to ensure that the exam is being launched. But he is not doing what he is supposed to do,” said Bar Tamfu Richard.

According to Bar Anyang Lewis,” The law states clearly that the aptitude test, which is the Bar exam into pupilage at the Bar shall be organized every year in the month of December, just to put it in the short form.”

He revealed that “Since 2014, the Minister has never done that. He has given a blind eye. It’s like Cameroonians have to beg the Minister to do his job.”

They have emphasized that the violation of the law by the Minister of Justice is a great prejudice to the profession itself as many law students are now stranded and frustrated after graduating.

The case will be heard at the High Court of Mfoundi.
