The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ had ranked Cameroon as the second worst jailer of pressmen in sub-saharan Africa after Eritrea.
According to the report, 39 journalists were in jails in Sub-Saharan Africa in connection to their work on December 1.
16 were in Eritrea alone and 7 in Cameroon. Burundi, Rwanda, Nigeria, Chad and others followed suite.
The recent ranking comes at a time when pressmen in Cameroon are still uncertain of the whereabouts of Buea based journalist, Samuel Wazizi. Several others too have been arrested, detained and even allegedly tortured in Cameroon in the line of duty.
