Cameroon News Roundup – April 25th, 2022

Eight persons were today killed in Guzang – Batibo in the North West Region. They were killed as soldiers invaded the locality. Seven of the victims are said to have been separatist fighters and one, a civilian.

After oil, fuel and other basic commodities, it is feared Cameroon markets will soon experience a sugar shortage too. This comes after sugar manufacturer, SOSUCAM said it was temporarily suspending production activities in it’s Mbandjock plant. The plant is situated in the Upper Sanaga division of the Centre region. The company cited failure on the part of its fuel supplier for the action.



The Mayor for Bamenda II in the North West Region has donated the sum of 1 million FCFA to the new Presbyterian hospital in the city. The sum, he specified, is meant for the treatment of the first 100 patients to visit the facility. He made the donation during the launch of the facility.



The weekend was a sad one for many residents of Douala. A fire incident razed many homes in the Deido neighborhood, leaving many stranded. Still over the weekend, floods left many stranded too in Douala. Poor waterway networks and construction works have been blamed for the floods.


Inhabitants of Bargaram in the Logone and Chari Division of the Far North region are counting their losses after an attack by suspected Boko Haram militants. The armed men invaded the locality on Sunday night breaking Monday, razing down a church. They also looted properties before leaving.



Cameroon’s oldest serving mayor has passed away. Abba Boukar who was mayor of Mora in the Far North region, reports say, died today at the Maroua Regional Hospital at the age of 80. Abba who too was once an MP, served as mayor for over 30 years.



Reports say FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o Fils, has threatened to sue the Algerian football association and Algerians for defamation. This comes following persistent attacks from Algerians after their shocking world cup qualifiers loss to Cameroon.
