The Ministry of Trade and the Cameroon Consumers Network have redefined the prices of some basic food stuff in the market after reports of a hyper increase of the prices of such necessities.
Before the meeting between the Minister of Trade, the Cameroon Consumers Network and Economic Operators of the rice sector, rice vendors in the economic capital made a fool of buyers with exorbitant prices.
Mimi Mefo info learnt that a 50kg bag of rice sold at the Mboppi market FCFA at 22 000 (Twenty-Two Thousand Francs) from the initial FCFA 17,000 on Wednesday March 20, 2019, witnessing an increase of FCFA 5,000.
Fresh fish in Mboppi also witnessed a surprising and unbearable price hike from FCFA 1,000 per kilogramme to FCFA 1,200.
Meeting in a consultative meeting in Yaounde on March 20, the ministry of Trade, alongside economic operators of the rice and finish importing sector, as well as the network of consumers in Cameroon, decided as follows:
FCFA 330 for a kilogramme of broken rice in Douala and FCFA 350 for the same quality and quantity in Yaounde.
For the high quality rice, a kg will cost FCFA 425 in Douala and Yaounde.
