Desiré Jean Claude Owono Menguele, Cameroon Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea has announced plans to evacuate Cameroonians and other nationals.
The decision comes after Equatorial Guinea authorities closed their country’s borders from December 6 to January 2, 2021.
After being ill-treated by security forces in Equatorial Guinea, Cameroonians based in the said nation have been allowed by the Cameroonian Embassy in Equatorial Guinea to make their way home, although the ambassador says the evacuation is for AFCON and other related reasons.
The press release signed on December 8, 2021, is however believed to be directly linked to the mass arrest and detention of Cameroonians in Equatorial Guinea, even though it includes evacuating other Nationals to Cameroon.
The arrest and detention of Cameroonians in neighboring Equatorial Guinea, it should be recalled, happened for a considerable time without the government’s intervention for its subjects.
