The Delegate General for National Security in Cameroon, Martin Mbarga Nguele has officially reacted to a video that has gone viral on social media.
The footage shows some agents of the police force implementing gruesome acts of torture on a suspected thief during an interrogation.
The video was shot on the night of September 15 -16 at a police station in Yaoundé.
Owing to what we curled from the video, the police agents, who used a machete to beat the suspect from the sole of his feet sought to know if he had accomplices.
Despite the suspect’s reverberating cry, insisting he was alone, the tortures went on, while it was being filmed by another.
The images of the torture sparked an outburst from Cameroonians on social media. Many criticized the system for normalizing such actions within the police corps and bashed the Territorial Administration Minister, Paul Atanga Nji for his threats on civilians who engaged uniformed men to physical fights, all the while ignoring inhumane acts as this exerted on the population by them.
Reacting to the situation, Martin Mbarga Nguele, Delegate General for National Security condemned the inhumane acts by the police officers involved. A communique published in this regard says the policemen in the video have been identified and will therefore undergo appropriate sanctions and disciplinary measures.
