Cameroon: Shocking scene as man has sex with ‘mad’ woman at Bafoussam market

By Amina Hilda

Passersby and traders at the Bafoussam market in the West Region of Cameroon were left in shock after a man was spotted having sex with a ‘mad’ woman in public.

In a video that lasts 29 seconds and is widely shared on social networks, a man dressed in yellow can be seen undressing to make love to a woman who appears to be suffering from mental health challenges.

Despite the cries of passers-by, the man seemed determined to accomplish his mission. “We can see him taking off his top before getting behind the mad woman who seemed to consent,” a source states.

The video, which was immediately shared on social networks, prompted a good number of mixed reactions:

“People aren’t afraid of anything anymore. They are already practicing in the middle of the day. What will we not see here in Bafoussam,” said an internet user.

“Occultism will kill people here in Bafoussam. In the middle of the day my brother? You won’t even wait for nightfall,” another exclaims.

There has been no comment from the authorities or law enforcement about this incident. Such silence is not surprising, given that mental health is still treated with a lot of stigma in Cameroon and there will be little done to investigate whether the sex act was one between two consenting adults who had the mental capacity to make such decisions.

It is not uncommon to see many women with different levels of mental health challenges, carrying babies across Cameroon.
