Cameroon: Shopkeeper impregnates five girls

A massive squabble has erupted in Logone-et-Chari, in the Far North Region of Cameroon, after a shopkeeper was found guilty of impregnating five women.

L’Oeil du Sahel, a Cameroonian daily newspaper based in the Northern region of the country, reported that the shopkeeper impregnated five girls from the same town.

The fight broke out between the different families of the women and people close to the shopkeeper.

A source narrated the incident, saying: “Once informed, the families of the girls stormed the shopkeeper’s place but faced stiff resistance from the economic operator’s family.”

The fight left two people injured. Security forces intervened, and arrests were made.

Once the story hit the social media space, many users, as usual, were ready to react.

Fondjo Majeste said, “I can imagine the damage incurred because of such a fight.”

lyawa Ahmadou questioned whether fighting over a man should be “while others worry about the future of their country, people fight over pants.”

Boubakari Siddiki, another Facebook user, stated that the young man will “take care of the little ones till he grows up mentally”.

Cases of young girls getting pregnant by a single man are, however, not uncommon in Cameroon.
