A French teacher has been stabbed to death by a soldier of the Rapid Intervention Battalion Unit (BIR).
The incident took place in Moussourtouk, a village in the Mayo-Kani Division of the Far North Region of Cameroon.
Reports say Ayang Koftouing Etienne was on his way to Maroua, on February 27, 2023, to receive his monthly salary, when the tragic incident took place, a statement from the Principal of Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Kaélé said.
“He was stabbed during a fight with a BIR soldier and he died on the spot,” the Principal of GBHS Kaélé added.

The fight between the teacher of GBHD Kaélé took place in Moussourtouk, where he stopped to have a rest — in the presence of four BIR soldiers.
“During this fight between the teacher and these men in uniform Etienne got weakened and ended up succumbing to death,” another source revealed.
The teacher died on the spot while the BIR soldier escaped. One of them was later apprehended, but the killer remains at large.
