It will be the first time that the women’s cricket team will be involved in an international competition.
The team of coach Nafack Tiokeng Carine consists of 14 locally selected cricketers charged with the task of flying high the national flag in Gaborone, Botswana.
The cricket lionesses are drawn in pool B alongside continental heavyweights like Uganda, Namibia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. A herculean task that the girls are hoping to overcome.
Speaking during Tuesday in a press conference, the vice-captain of the team, Cynerah Dibande Mboe says their latest training sessions are aimed at perfecting the needed techniques to be able to emerge among the best.
“We have been training very hard towards this competition, the focus has been to correct those little mistakes that we usually have like ensuring that our bolding and fielding is a 100% tighter because we don’t want to give any room for failures”.
A total of 10 teams divided into two pools will be taking part in the continental world cup qualification tournament dubbed T20.
The two finalists will automatically pick up qualification tickets for the world cup to take place in South Africa in 2022.
When Mimi Mefoe asked about Cameroon’s chances at the tournament Cynerah Dibande Mbeo said “we have a seen their game, they haven’t seen our game. We are going to stumble on them like a surprise and really get the best part of our Cameroon to play shown to their faces”.
Coach Nafack Tiokeng Carine added more weight to the above statement by saying she has confidence in her girls and that she is hopeful that will end this tournament amongst the best teams in the to grab the world cup ticket.
Team Cameroon’s 16 man delegation is expected to leave Cameroon on the 6 of September, a day before the games to take place from the 7th to the 20th of September.
