Cameroonian Invents App translating French, English languages to mother tongues

By Timfuchi Aaronn

Innocent Che, 25 has produced computer software that translates English and French languages to Cameroon’s local languages. He is now planning on upgrading it.

Che says the Cameroon E-Translate will help people, especially students and tourists to master the basics of the language in any locality where they find themselves.

In 2020, the software called Cameroon E-Translate got the programmer the second prize in the Digital Innovation Week Contest.

The software at the beginning had only about 10 languages. Now, the developer, Innocent Che explained that more than 50 national languages can be translated with the application.

“Each of these languages contains 150 different sentences. We have languages like Ewondo, Bafut, and Bassa amongst others,” Che revealed, adding that his team are still working on making Cameroon E-Translate ideal for language enthusiasts.

He explains that they require the services of more translators. “Most people can speak but can’t write as such it poses a big problem because we need the text in other to preserve these languages”, he said. Che disclosed that he will launch a new website by June this year.
