For many years now, Nigerians and Ghanaians on social media have exchanged comments over which country has the best jellof rice.
Today, social media users in Cameroon have joined the fray, after one of theirs, comedian, CY Old Pancho replied a Nigerian celebrity, Omoni Oboli on the issue.
Social entrepreneur, Delly Singha also added her voice to the campaign, urging more Cameroonians to do same.
“Dear beautiful Omoni Oboli, it’s laughable reading your sarcastic post and comments about Cameroon Jollof.
We are not mocked and have never bothered joining the ‘Jollof Competition’ cuz we are beyond the level of competing,” wrote the match-maker.
“Cameroon’s Jollof,” she added, “compares to none! Please, stick with Ghana so we can finally crown the first runner up.”
Many social media users have since taken the relay, dishing out their opinions on the issue.
“… This is not a laughing matter, Cameroon jellof is the best so far. Nigerian jellof is what we call in Cameroon painted rice and we only prepare that when hunger is at its peak or when we are running out of finances especially in school,” wrote a social media user.
To another, Ashu Kelly, Nigeria surpassés Cameroon in many sectors, but not culinary works.
Cameroonians, she remarked, “have accepted that Nigeria passes us in movie productions even though we’re walking up to that ladder.. But big mami.. Do you see cooking?? Do not and never…”
Attesting to have lived in both countries, Nigeria, she said, does not come close.
Despite being an area of controversy, the ongoing ‘jollof war’s it should be noted, remains an avenue for exchange and demonstration of cultures between the different countries involved.
