Cameroonians Showcase Vibrant Culture in South Korea

Cameroonians in South Korea have exhibited their rich and diversified culture by showcasing of their traditions, costumes, and artefacts.

This was on the occasion of a one-week cultural exchange held at the Suwon Cultural Centre. The event ran from Monday, August 7, to Saturday, August 12, 2023.

The cultural exhibition by Cameroonians was spearheaded by the Cameroonian Society in South Korea, Camosko, under the leadership of Anoh Jeff.

In an exclusive interview with MMI, Awa’oma Jr., a Cameroonian residing in South Korea, said, “The event served as a magnificent platform for celebrating and showcasing the richness of Cameroon’s culture.”

The event was massively attended by Cameroonian volunteers engaged with curious visitors, sharing insights about the nation’s history, and proudly presenting the map of Cameroon.

“The event transcended national borders as our peers from Ghana also contributed to the display, showcasing their own cherished traditions,” Awa’oma Jr. added.

Also present at the event was the Mayor of Suwon City, a bustling urban centre in South Korea.

“The collaborative celebration of culture proved to be a remarkable success, evoking genuine excitement among the Korean attendees, who were captivated by the elegance and allure of our heritage,” noted Awa’oma Jr.

Thanks to support from the Mayor of Suwon City, plans are already underway to host another grand cultural event in the coming year.

The event, according to many, stood as a testament to the power of cultural exchange and mutual understanding, reaffirming the bridges of connection that can be built through shared heritage.

The event brought together approximately 700–800 South Koreans and foreigners residing in the country.
