The politician and president of the Union of African Populations (UPA) died this Wednesday in Yaoundé following a long-term illness.
He was a candidate during Cameroon’s presidential elections in 1997, 2004, 2011 and was known for his very critical stance vis-à-vis neocolonialism, its tenets, one of them being the CFA Franc currency.
Humbert KAMGANG also served as Secretary General of the Union of Central African States (UDEAC), which later on became the Community of Central African States (CEMAC). He died at the age of 59.
