President Paul Biya’s ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement party, CPDM, has created a committee to scrutinise the lists of candidates vying for the upcoming Senatorial Elections.

The commission was created on January 18 and in a release signed by Biya, the party’s chairman.

Heading the committee is the CPDM Secretary-General, Jean Nkuete, who is assisted by four vice presidents, seven members, and five rapporteurs.

Political parties in Cameroon are gearing up to the Senatorial Election scheduled to take place on March 12 at various Divisional headquarters.

Parties will be competing for 70 senatorial seats with the CPDM, which won 63 seats in the 2018 elections.

Cameroon’s senate is made up of 100 members with 10 coming from each region serving for a five-year term.

However, 70 members are elected while 30 are appointed by a presidential decree.

The electoral college constitutes municipal and regional councillors.
