Candidates catch cold as GCE results awaited

Few days to school resumption in Cameroon for the 2020/2021 academic year, candidates of Cameroon general certificate of education have not received their results.

“I wrote the GCE advance level but am surprised that less than five days to school resumption we don’t know our fate because results have not been released. The most painful thing is that scheduled date for most entrance examinations into professional schools and universities have expired.Even if the results are released, the harm has already been done”.A worry from a GCE advance level candidate to Mimi Mefo Info.

To Fatimatou Yayah;candidate of GCE ordinary level “…am confused if I will resume school next Monday October 5th as a form five student or that of lower sixth student. Am worried most especially as relatives keep asking me if results have not been made published.Sometimes I feel I have failed.Am restless but I just have to wait patiently”.

Inconveniences due to prolonged delay in proclaiming results of 2020/2021 GCE is not only on candidates and their parents that urgently want the result to determine the next stage of education but equally universities and higher institutions in Cameroon that depend on graduates from advanced level for their enrolment.

In a release signed on the 25th of September 2020, the vice chancellor of the University of Buea postponed the start of the written phase of entrance examinations into the faculty of health sciences in the university.

Prof. Ngono Horace Manga says the entrance examinations will start on Tuesday October 13th 2020 instead of September 29th as earlier scheduled.Prof. Ngono Horace sites the unavailability of advance GCE result as the main reason for the postponement.
According to Munjoh Jacob;an advance level GCE examiner, “The marking session ended officially on Tuesday 22nd of September with the marking of GCE A level paper 3.Which means that other administrative work that involves the compilation of the results and the grading is on and results expected surely before the 5th of October 2020”.

The marking session started on Wednesday the 9th of September in Limbe and Buea marking centres in the South West region of Cameroon.

Efforts by Mimi Mefo Info to get the reaction of Cameroon GCE board react to what candidates call “delay” in releasing the results have so far failed.
After seven months of no school in Cameroon following the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, government has programmed school resumption for Monday October 5th 2020 with the respect of COVID 19 preventive measures given priority.
