“When they called me at 2 o’clock in the morning to inform me of his passing, I simply said the will of God had taken its course…”
His Grace Andrew Nkea Archbishop of the Bamenda Metropolitan Archdiocese has described Cameroon’s pioneer Cardinal as a pillar in the Catholic Church in Cameroon, a fearless apostle, a man of justice and truth, an advocate of peace and the Moses of our time.
“I think he is dying at a time when there is hope at the end of the horizon,” he says.
As a newly appointed bishop, the Archbishop says he was mentored by his Eminence Cardinal Tumi.
“What I am today was being shaped by Cardinal Tumi,” H.E. Nkea said.
“Though I was not taught by the cardinal, Archbishop Andrew Nkea says they were very close as priests.
His Eminence Cardinal Christian Tumi fought tirelessly in making sure peace returns to the restive North West and South West regions of Cameroon. He has done everything within his powers to preach peace, to promote peace and to work for peace within the two regions,” His Grace Nkea tells MMI.
On the peace crusade championed by the Cardinal, archbishop Andrew Nkea says “we will not relent”.
According to the priest, “peace is not a gamble” and that they will continue the crusade for peace. “We had it before, we lost it, we must find it again,” he said.
His Eminence Christian Cardinal Tumi before his demise had been sick for the last three weeks.
