Bishop Engelbert Kameni; Spokesperson of the Archbishop of Douala Metropolitan diocese has said a 39 seconds video of Archbishop Samuel Kleda circulating on the social “…has been taken out of context”.

According to Bishop Kameni, the video is an extraction of a long message in a press conference granted by the Archbishop years ago wherein he commented on political issues in Cameroon.

In the said video, Archbishop Samuel Kleda is heard saying “people should not be forced to belong to a political party that is not their choice. In Cameroon, civil servants appointed or recruited by the state are forced to militate with the ruling party. That is wrong. Cameroonians stand for a change of such a practice “.

The video that has been making rounds on the social media, the spokesperson says has no link with several nationwide manifestations announced in Cameroon in the days ahead by some political parties, civil society groups and some individuals.

Commentators argue that the video may have been intentionally taken out of context by those against the government to give more credibility to the planned protest.
