CDC workers protest 18 months unpaid salary

Hundreds of workers of Cameroon Development Cooperation (CDC) in Tiko, South West region of Cameroon are on the streets this Tuesday 13th October 2020 demanding 18 months of salary arrears.

The disgruntled workers are those working at Tiko banana plantations and Misselele rubber estates.

According to those of the banana plantations, the management of Cameroon development corporation is owing them 2018 Christmas deposit and over one year salary arrears.

To those of Miselele rubber plantations “… we have not been paid salary for 18 months. How do they expect us to survive during this period of back to school? We risk our lives everyday working in the plantations yet management is just unnecessarily wicked “: Jacob Neba; one of the irate workers of CDC tells Mimi Mefo Info on phone.

Besides this, workers of CDC industrial unit are said to have notified the management of their indefinite suspension of work from the 25th of October 2020 if their financial obligations are not met.

As concerns those sent on retirement recently, CDC workers say they are paid less than 5% of their money.

“We are protesting because the general manager of CDC told a lie to the press that he has paid us three months salary for back to school. This is a big lie because we have not received any franc” One of them stated.

Since 2017 when boys fighting for the restoration of the state of Ambazonia began attack of CDC workers and installations, the plantations have experienced financial crisis. Despite this , Cameroon government has recently given a financial assistance to boast the second highest employer in Cameroon.

The crumbling CDC today in Tiko and other parts of the South West region of Cameroon has partly damaged the economy not only in the South West but the entire country.

The protest Tuesday October 11th is the 5th since the beginning of this year by workers in a bid to claim their money and care for their families.
