Centre Region: Governor gives one-week ultimatum for vehicle owners to regularise number plates

Centre Regional Governor, Naseri Paul Bea has said his administration will swing into action by next week to impound vehicles whose number plates do not comply with CEMAC regulations.

The administrator issued the warning in a communique signed August 18 in which he says action will be taken against vehicles that fail to comply within the next one week.

“The Governor of the Center Region has the honor to inform the populations of his administrative district that vehicles circulating with non-compliant number plates (diplomatic plates, CEMAC, Temporary Registration, chassis), will now be stopped and driven immediately for impoundments,” the communique reads in part.

“For this purpose,” the release furthers, “it grants one week, a strict deadline, to any owner of these vehicles to comply.”

The administrative order only applies to the 10 divisions of the region which hosts Cameroon’s political capital Yaounde.

Governor Naseri’s order is among the several steps the Cameroon Government is taking to prepare major cities of the country for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, whose opening game takes place in Yaounde on January 9, 2022 with Cameroon opening the tournament against Burkina Faso at the Olembe Stadium.
