Two persons are reported to have died in an explosion at a soap production factory in Lekie, Centre Region on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

The exact cause of the explosion had not been determined at the time of this report and reports say the two factory workers had been on duty when there were killed in the blast.

“I heard a loud voice and, when I came out, I saw this huge metallic lead in the air. Suddenly, I began hearing some shouts and, when I approached the area, I realised they had discovered two corpses,” an eyewitness said.

He added that one of the deceased victims’ arms was amputated by the explosive.

Reacting to the incident, the Mayor of Okala frowned with the local produce soap, adding that this endangers the lives of workers and the community at large.

However, reacting to the Mayor’s comment, a Facebook user said: “A Mayor who doesn’t believe in local industry. Instead of setting up programs for local industries to be operated normally. No to imports. Is it with this mentality that he wants to help develop Cameroon?”

Fire fighters transported bodies of the two victims to the mortuary, while investigations are ongoing to determine the real cause of the incident.
