A truck driver and his assistant have been arrested after they reportedly killed a gendarme officer who was on duty at Ebang, a village located on the Yaounde-Bafoussam road.
Reports say the officer was killed after pursuing the truck for several hours because its driver had refused to stop at a Gendarmerie checkpoint along the road.
A witness recounted that the truck driver ordered his assistant to hit the officer on the head with an iron as they stopped by the roadside.
“The driver of the truck refused to appear in front of the control and fled with his machine. Chased by the gendarme, the truck driver will finally park his vehicle and will order his assistant to hit him,” an eyewitness recounted.
The driver’s assistant reportedly used a wheel wrench to hit the officer on the head, leaning him dead.
They reportedly removed his gun, phone and other belongings before speeding off.
