His Excellency Mahi Boumedienne, Algerian Ambassador to Cameroon has assured Cameroonians of their safety in Algeria as the country prepares to host the African Nations Championship, CHAN.

The diplomat was speaking during an audience with the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT.

The audience took place January 9, 2023, in Yaoundé.

The audience came against a backdrop of tension between Cameroonians and Algerians.

“The Ambassador of Algeria assured the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation that all security measures have been taken by the authorities of his country to a smooth participation of Cameroon in this competition on Algerian soil,” revealed the Cameroon Football Federation on their official Facebook page.

In the course of the meeting, the Algerian ambassador to Cameroon reiterated the ties of friendship that exist between his country and Cameroon.

After the Cameroon-Algeria match which took place on March 29, 2022, Algerians began accusing Eto’o Fils of having bribed the referee to obtain the 2-1 victory over them.

The already tense relations between Cameroonians and Algerians deteriorated further on December 5, after a video emerged online showing the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, attempting to hit an Algerian YouTuber.
