A week to the kick-off of the African Football Championship (CHAN) in Cameroon, preparatory matches of the Intermediate Lions have not been applauded by the public and football experts.
At the end of a four-nation pre-CHAN tournament Thursday, January 7th, 2021, the Intermediate Lions came last on the classification table with just a point. The lions played three matches, drew one and lost two. The Lions scored two goals in three matches and conceded five.
On the classification table, Uganda comes first with seven points, followed by Zambia with 4 points just as Niger too with four points, and Cameroon last at the bottom with one point.
At the end of their last match against Zambia on January 7th, the head coach of the Lions, Martin Ntougho Mpile said he had no declaration to make to the press stressing that he needed time to reflect.
The pre-CHAN tournament ends days to the African Football Championship that starts on the 16th of January. Despite this, football commentators say the performance of the Intermediate Lions suggests poor preparation.
Others have been pointing accusing fingers at the coach for selecting players not because of their competence on the green turf but under the influence of brown envelopes.
