The state-owned daily newspaper, the Cameroon Tribune, managed alongside other publications by SOPECAM, is celebrating its golden jubilee.

As part of the ongoing celebrations marking 50 years of existence, the Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, has praised the paper for maintaining its objectivity over the decades.

“Objectively, you are doing a good job,” the Minister stated, highlighting the paper’s ability to withstand competition from the written press, audiovisual media, and online platforms.

He noted that the paper’s continued existence is commendable.

“Cameroon Tribune has to be creative. There are lots of publications, and I think that you are doing a good job under the leadership of your director, who appreciates what is being done in this press organ,” Emmanuel Sadi remarked.

“That is why we have this anniversary, which is to assess and acknowledge the things you have accomplished despite many challenges,” he added.

The Cameroon Tribune was established in 1974 during the presidency of Ahmadou Ahidjo. At the time, it was the sole government publication.

Currently, the paper is published under the direction of Marie Claire Nana, who assumed the position in 2002 as the Director of the National Printing Press, SOPECAM.

The printing press also publishes Cameroon Insider and Cameroon Business alongside the Cameroon Tribune.

Since its inception, Cameroon Tribune has seen the leadership of seven directors and two deputies.

The paper maintains branches across the national territory and is published daily.

As part of the commemoration, the publication has organized various events attended by government Ministers, including those from the higher education and employment and vocational training sectors.
