The compulsory Covid-19 tests at the airport for entries and departures seem to have provided another opportunity for some Cameroonians to make money through dubious means.

According to our sources, a scamming scheme might have been created amongst airport medical personnel whereby fake Covid-19 test results are issued to desperate travelers, who are then asked to pay a substantial amount of money before they are given negative test results.

A victim of this unfortunate scheme has spoken to MMI explaining how health officials at the airport exploited his son who was desperate to travel to Dubai.

“My son was supposed to travel to Dubai on Thursday, so I took him to take the covid-19 test so we were asked to come for the results on Thursday, the day he was supposed to travel. He came on that day and he was given a positive test, implying he could no longer travel,” he said.

“Desperate and stressed as I was, I was speechless. We were then told that he could still travel if he was given a fake Covid-19 result. They asked us to give an amount of 80,000FCFA. However, we were warned that he may be repatriated upon testing positive in Dubai,” he furthered.

“But to my greatest surprise, my son traveled and upon arriving in Dubai and doing the necessary tests, he returned a completely negative test. He sent me the medical reports and I was completely baffled at the kind of medical experts we have in Cameroon… where are we heading? It is really deplorable in this country,” he concluded.
