Contraband drugs worth 15 Million FCFA destroyed in Bertoua

Most of the drugs destroyed by the elements of forces of law and order was seized at Gari Gombo and Bertoua by Custom officers during routine searches in towns.

According to “Le Jour” Newspaper, the customs authorities conducted a search and seized the shipment containing very large quantities of contraband drugs estimated to worth over 15 Million FCFA.

Most the stock seized during the search contained medications such as HydroxilChloroquine, a medicine used for patient treatment protocol as part of the fight against Coronavirus.

The shipment was consequently destroyed by the customs authorities after seizure under the watchful eyes of the Governor of the East Region, Gregoire Mvongo.

The Governor also used the opportunity to send a warning to traffickers telling them that the health of the population is the government’s priority and in no case would be left to jeopardy.

“I will indeed like the traffickers to receive this message clearly: we will not allow them to do such evil jobs in our region. We will always be on the side of the population so that their health improves,” he declared.

Also, authorities in the East region have made it clear that only medication prescribed and made available by the state should be used by patients, especially if they are intended to treat or remedy the spread of Covid-19.
