Coronavirus: UEFA Confirms Postponement of All Champions League, Europa League Matches; Bundesliga Also Hit

UEFA has confirmed that neither Champions League nor Europa League matches will be played next week because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

European football’s governing body released a statement on its official Twitter account and website on Friday: “In the light of developments due to the spread of COVID-19 in Europe and related decisions made by different governments, all UEFA club competitions matches scheduled next week are postponed. #UCL and #UEL quarter-final draws have also been postponed. Full statement,” UEFA said, adding that, “As a consequence of the postponements, the Champions League and Europa League quarter-final draws scheduled for March 20 have also been postponed”.

Bundesliga Also Hit!

The Bundesliga and Bundesliga.2 will add their names to the list of domestic divisions to be paused due to the spread of coronavirus after the DFL confirmed play is to be suspended between Tuesday March 17 and Thursday April 2.

Matches in Germany’s top two divisions are already taking place behind closed doors, but France, Italy and Spain have all now suspended play altogether, while it’s suspected England could follow suit after Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the virus.

Once the forthcoming round of fixtures takes place, Germany will also suspend its fixtures until at least the start of April.
