Council for Sovereignty of Cameroon Thanks The Gambia’s President For Hosting Tchiroma

The Council for the Sovereignty of Cameroon has written a letter in which it appreciated The Gambian President, Adama Barrow, for hosting Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who is being protected in The West Africa nation.

It said the sovereignty of Cameroon has been taken hostage by Mr. Paul Biya, whose legitimacy is still being questioned. According to CSC, The Gambia’s offer of a safe haven to Tchiroma has significantly improved the chances of restoring Cameroon’s sovereignty.

Tchiroma arrived in The Gambia on November 7, according to a statement from The Gambian Ministry of Information. The West African nation said he is there temporarily and purely on humanitarian grounds.

Mr. Tchiroma fled Cameroon following threats of arrest after he declared that he had won the October 12 presidential election. It was later said he was in a neighboring country before the announcement of his presence in The Gambia.

CSC Aims to Restore Cameroon’s Sovereignty

CSC has said it intends to play a significant role in ensuring that those who have hijacked Cameroon’s sovereignty are removed from power so that the “legitimately elected President, Mr. Issa Tchiroma Bakary, can be officially declared the winner of the presidential election and sworn in as the third President of the Republic of Cameroon.”
To the council, whose members are Cameroonians in the Diaspora, believes that Mr. Tchiroma Bakary did what was expected of him by campaigning nationwide and ultimately winning the election on October 12, 2025.
“Bearing witness to the truth and affirming what is right and good are integral parts of what makes us human. Since truth and justice are now considered deadly weapons against the usurpation of Cameroon’s sovereignty, we expect the illegitimate government of Cameroon to attempt to pressure you into inhumanely silencing Mr. Tchiroma Bakary or forcing him to utter lies, such as referring to Mr. Paul Biya as the President of Cameroon. Your Excellency, do not yield to this subversion of truth and this remote torture of Mr. Tchiroma’s conscience, which testifies to the general truth that Mr. Biya lost the elections,” it stated.

The CSC has equally pledged to provide any assistance to The Gambia by providing relevant information if needed.

“The restoration of Cameroon’s sovereignty is linked to the recognition of Mr. Issa Tchiroma Bakary as the legitimately elected president,” CSC wrote. “His visit to The Gambia will be remembered as a lengthy state visit by a Cameroonian president who benefited from the renowned hospitality of the sovereign people of The Gambia.”

According to them, Tchiroma chose The Gambia because of the shared connection it has with the Cameroonian people.

As a measure to continue gathering support, Tchiroma’s spokesperson, Barrister Alice Nkom, has called for a three-day “ghost town” beginning Sunday.
